You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town (Keys Hotel, Panama garden resort,
or Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel);
you will meet your guide who will brief you on your upcoming trek and do an equipment check to make sure you have all the necessary mountain gear. The missing gear can be rented on this day.Meals: No Meals Included.
In the morning be ready for pre-climb briefing and introductions with our team precede the drive to Kilimanjaro Park's Eastern Gate: Marangu, which lies at 1,860 m. Here, your head guide arranges all necessary permits and registration for rescue and search services before you start the walk to Mandara Hut’s 2,700 m. The trail takes you through rain forest with its high probability of rain showers, so bring a raincoat.
This being your first day at high altitude we strongly recommend the following:
>>Do not consume any caffeine or alcohol during climbing
>>Drink often, a little at a time for a total daily intake of atleast 4 litres .
>>Take Diamox for relief from altitude sickness symptoms. It is usually taken in the morning before the day's climbing. Consult your doctor before undertaking the trip to check for possible contraindications.
>>Heed your body's warnings and promptly inform your guide of any adverse symptoms althrough we have daily medical check up.
Acclimatisation-associated discomfort is common at night, when your body gets less oxygen than during the day. This is normally expressed in the form of nausea and headaches.
Following breakfast, hikers will begin their ascent out of the rainforest and into the heathen moorland. Hikers will pass the Maundi Crater and are able to climb up to its rim for a spectacular view of the Kibo Crater. In the moorland, you will spot exotic plants, including giant lobelia and groundsel. After 6 hours of hiking, you will reach Horombo Hut (3720m). Horombo Hut sleeps 120 hikers and is located on a small plateau. Similar to the first night, the porters will prepare drinking and washing water for you. You will enjoy evening snacks then dinner prepared by our chef. Be prepared for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this site.
At Horombo Hut, you will spend the day allowing your body to acclimate to high altitude. You will have the option of doing a day hike to Mawenzi Hut (4600m) for further acclimatization with your guide. Breakfast and dinner will be at the hut and lunch will either be packed or at the hut depending on your preference for the day.
On this day, right after breakfast the group will be trekking to the Kibo Hut (4,700 m). The actual trekking is not
very difficult, just remember to stick with an appropriate pace to keep up your strength for the climbing to
Kilimanjaro's summit.
When you reach the camp you will be served lunch, after which we recommend you sleep as much as you can, avoid any strenuous activity,
and drink lots of water.
Your guide will wake you around 23:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt. The trail is rocky up to Hans Meyer Cave (5150m). You continue your ascent to Gillmans point (5681m). Reaching this section is an impressive achievement as the trail is steep, rocky, and at high altitude. Gillmans is located on the crater rim. From this point, you will usually experience a snow covered trail until you reach the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m). Reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro is a lifetime accomplishment! You will be able to spend a short time on the summit taking photographs and drinking tea before the descent to Barafu begins. The hike down to Kibo Hut takes about 3 hours.
At Kibo Hut, you will rest and enjoy a hot lunch in the sun. After eating, you will continue descending down to Horombo Hut (3720m). You will have a dinner, wash, and rest soundly at the hut after a strenuous day.
The last stage passes through the heath and moor zone to the Mandara Hut (2700m) where a warm lunch is waiting for you. Soon, you will once again pass the tropical rainforest and after a total time of 6 hours trekking, you will be back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). After saying goodbye to your mountain guides, a short transfer follows to take you back to your hotel in Moshi. Once there, you can take a warm and relaxing shower and celebrate your success in reaching the summit of the Kilimanjaro.

We contact Marko Mtui from African Traces about a month and a half before our trip to Tanzania in order to book ourself a safari trip. Marko was very communicative and answered all our questions and wonderings.
We checked a few Safari operators in Tanzania and decided to go with African Traces (which had the best "value for money" proposal and a lot of great reviews), and we couldn't choose better!
Marko weiss was die Kunden wollen.
