Manyara comes from the Maasai word “ Emanyarara’’ which is a plant used for making fancies” around their kraals It is scientifically referred to as Euphorbia tirucalii’’ other older maasai argue that it comes from the word “Olmanyara’’ which means settlement. The park contain a large variety of habitat such as the rift valley wall. The groundwater forest and acacia woodland the canopy of these types of the vegetation contain shrubs and grasses which form a good habitat for baboons, monkeys elephants, hornbills etc. The park is famous for tree climbing lions, which are occasionally seen along the branches of acacia trees. Lake Manyara is the alkaline lake it has only inlet without outlet. The park is perhaps best known for its flamingos, pelicans and cormorants but it is also the home for hundred other species of birds; it is therefore a paradise for ornithologists. Next to a great variety of birds, giraffes nibble at the fresh leaves while the various types of antelopes common to the region browse for tasty shoots. After a picnic lunch, there will be more time for further game and wildlife watching before it is time to return to Arusha or Moshi.
